뉴마 재단소개 (財團紹介)
pneuma란 헬라어 “푸뉴마(πνεμα)”에서 온 말로 공기, 바람, 성령 이란 뜻이다.사도행전 1장 8절 말씀에 따라 성령이 인도하시는 증인의 사역을 목표로 뉴마재단 (Pneuma Foundation, Inc.)이라 정했다.태동 당시에는 뉴마선교회 (Pneuma Mission, Inc.)라고하였으나 선교현지의정치적, 종교적, 및 사회적으로 갖는 제약성 때문에 선교(Mission)를 재단(Foundation)이란단어로 변경했다.
신조 (信條, Article of Faith):
1. 예수 그리스도의 신성과 인성을 인정하며, 예수 그리스도만이 구원의 길됨을 믿는다.
2. 삼위일체를 믿으며, 또한 성경의 무오성을 믿는다.
3. 모든 사역과 임무는 성경적 근거에 바탕을 두어 실행한다.
목적 (目的, Objective)
1.지역교회가 효과적으로 수행하기 어려운 산업, 기술, 교육, 의료 등을 바탕으로 한 평신도 전문인 선교 및 자선사역에 중점을 둔다.
2.개 교회 성도들의 내부지향적 신앙생활을 외부지향적인 선교 및 구제에 중점을 둔 사역 성도로 봉사하게 한다.
3.개 교회에서 봉사사역을 마친 평신도 지도자들이 지속적으로 활동할 수 있는 사역의 길을 마련한다.
4.성도들의 바른 신앙정립과 또 장단기 사역에 임할 수 있도록 양육훈련을 하고 사역 지 파송을 지원한다.
5. 현지사역자, 자원봉사자, 사역단체에 재정, 자재, 인원수급 및 행정 지원을 한다.
INITIATION
We received strong challenge from the direction suggested by the President Dr. James C. Kim of Yanbian University of Science and Technology, (hereinafter called YUST) on 14 and 15 January 1994 for “The key role for the future mission toward the ethnic group who share same blood line and toward the world should be by the lay Christian professionals in the industrial, technological, educational and medical fields.” On 23 January of the same year, three elders, Hong Sup Shim, Won Wook Choi and Soon Hoon Hong, met with President Kim and agreed to set up a mission organization focusing on support ministry for YUST in Los Angeles, California, USA (as the Western Regional Office). Nine lay Christians (Tae Joo Kwon, Sang Moon Kim, Soo Yeol Kim, Joonki Paik, Youngin Song, Youngwon Cho, Won Wook Choi, Soon Hoon Hong and Heejin Hwang, held the First meeting for this purpose on 17 March 1994 at 10 Lexington, Irvine, California. As a short-term mission, shipment of 20 ft. container full of books, office equipment to YUST, establishment of organizational structure, registration as a non-profit cooperation and an exploration trip to YUST in Yanj City, Jilin Province, China were discussed
INITIATION (태동, 胎動)
1994년 1월 14-15 양일간에 걸쳐서 얼바인 베델한인교회에서 집회를 인도한 연변과학기술대학 (Yanbian University of of Science & Technology, 약칭 연과대) 김진경 총장의 “한 피 나눈 우리 민족과 세계를 향한 이제부터의 선교 는 산업, 기술, 교육, 의료 등에 의한 평신도 선교가 주축을 이루게 될 것" 이라는 방향제시에 강한 도전을 받게 됐다. 동년 1월 23일에 세분의 장로들 (심홍섭, 최원욱, 홍순훈)이 연과대 김진경 총장과 회동하여 연과대 후원사역으로하는 선교기관을 미국 서부지역 (Los Angeles)에 설립하기로 합의 했다. 이를 위한 제1차 모임으로 1994년 3월 17일 10 Lexington, Irvine, California 에서 아홉 분의 평신도들 (권태주, 김상문, 김수열, 백준기, 송영진, 조영원, 최원욱, 홍순훈, 황희진)이 기구설립을 위한 제1차 모임을 갖다. 단기사역으로 연과대에 20-ft Container분의 도서 및 교육기자재지원, 조직편성, 비영리단체 주, 연방정부 등록, 선교지 답사단 구성등을 숙의 하였다.
On 21 April 1994, dedication worship service was held for installation of non-profit organization at Suite D, 15455 Red Hill Dr. Tustin, California. A 20 ft container consisted of 12,000 English books on technology, one set of computer system and medical supplies worth $6,000 were loaded on board at Long Beach pier by dedicated volunteers on 17 July. Hong Sup Shim, Won Wook Choi and Soon Hoon Hong were invited to speak at the Second Symposium hosted by YUST and titled "The Chinese Minority Scientists and Technicians Conference.” on 14 – 17 August, 1994. The visit included exploration of the mission field over two-week period. Through the exploration trip to three provinces of Northeastern China, we received strong inspiration into establishment of vision for mission and the role of Pneuma. The team gained valuable insights through the trip into the need for detailed analysis and timely countermeasure resulting from the local and international situation relating to its influence on evangelism, humanitarian relief and support ministry. The team learned that an effective strategies be established throughout unending short-term mission and exploration trips to the mission field.
1994년 4월 21일 15455 Red Hill Ave., Suite D, Tustin, California 92680 에서기구설립 봉헌예배를 드리다. 동역자들의 헌신봉사로 7월 17일 Long Beach 항에서 연과대로 보내지는 영문기술도서 12,000권, computer system 한 set, $6,000상당의 의약품을 20-ft Container에 선적을 완료하다. 동년 8월14-17일에 걸쳐 연과대 주최 제2차 “중국 소수민족 과학기술사 대회”에 Speaker로 초청으로 본 재당에서는 심홍섭, 최원욱, 홍순훈 세분이 선교답사겸 현지를 2주에 걸쳐 방문 하였다. 이 현지답사(중국 동북3성)를 통해 선교의 Vision과 뉴마가 해야 할 사역들을 보고 느낄 수 있는 유익이 있었다. 특히 부단한 단기선교, 현지답사 등을 통하여 현지사정 파악과 면밀한 분석으로 국제 및 국내 정세와 추세에 따른 해당지역의 선교, 구제, 지원활동에 미칠영향에 민감하게 대처하고 효과적인 전략을 수립, 최선의 대응책이 심도 깊게 연구, 계획 되어져아 함을 깨닫는 계기가 되었으며, 강한 도전을 받게 되었다.
On October 11, 1994, we held a meeting at Bethel Korean Church in Irvine, California for initiation of Pneuma Foundation with attendance of some 95 dignitaries from numerous churches, mission organizations, libraries and business corporations in Southern California, USA. On April 29, 1995, we held a conference under the slogan, “Now, This time,” with Chancellor Dr. James C. Kim, Dr. Stephen W. Linton of Eugene Bell Foundation, Pastors, Hyun Soo Lee of Hawaii Korean Church and Joseph Song of OM for African and Chinese Mission as the speakers. Afterwards, Pneuma Foundation held the First General Meeting and elected elder Won Wook Choi as the first president. On October 13, 1995, Franchise Tax Board, State of California has approved Pneuma Foundation as an exempt corporation and Internal Revenue Services, Department of Treasury did the same on October 16, 1995.
1994년 10월 11일 Irvine에 있는 베델한인 교회에서, 토렌스중앙장로교회,나성영락교회, 나성한인교회, 남가주사랑의교회, 오렌지카운티한인교회 , 나성한미교회, 윌셔연합감리교회 등 교계인사들을 비롯하여 미국 선교단체 BEE International, 미주 현대자동차, 남가주 약사회, 연과대로 보내는 기술서적을 기증해 주신Rockwell International, UC Irvine Library, Cal Poly Library, Newport Beach Library등 에서 오신 분들을 포함 95명이 참석한 가운데 뉴마재단 발기모임을 가졌다. 1995년 4월 29일 (토) “지금 이때에..”란 제하에 김진경 총장 (중국, 연과대), Stephen W. Linton박사 (Eugene Bell 재단), 이현수목사(화와이한인교회), 송요셉 목사 (OM의 Africa 선교사역, 중국선교)를 Conference의 강사로 집회를 가진 후 이어 뉴마재단 창립총회를 갖고 초대회장에 최원욱 장로를 선출하였다. 1995년 10월 13일부로 주 정부(Franchise Tax Board, State of California)비영리단체 인가가 나왔고 , 이어 1995년 10월 16일 부로 연방정부 (Internal Revenue Services, Department of Treasury) 비영리단체로 인가 받다.

All work places are our mission Fields and all workers are missionaries and pastors in that mission fields. Not only Pastors’ jobs are holy professionsorders, but also are all other .
Should a profession become merely a way to earn a living?
Although people choose their professions according to their talents, the majority of people use their trades and specialties for their own benefit. Seldom do they use them for the Lord and to spread the Gospel. There are callings for mission in any profession.
